US midterm elections

Today, on November 8, Americans vote in the elections to the US Congress, in a number of states there are also elections for governors and representatives of local legislative assemblies.

The elections will elect the 435-seat US House of Representatives (the lower house of Congress) and a third of the seats in the Senate.

In addition, 36 states and three territories - Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands and American Samoa - will elect governors.

Western media note that these elections will indirectly make it possible to find out the assessment given by the Americans to the activities of US President Joe Biden, and will also become an important indicator of sentiment on the eve of the next presidential election in 2024.

Elections are held in the middle of the presidential term, and therefore are called midterms.
